Paul Herbert Gaskell born in Lancaster but in September 1959 he moved down to Kingsteignton in Devon, I moved from Torquay where I was born, to Kingsteignton and on June 16th 1962 I met that man and was hooked, our romance was far from conventional and it was a real love story so sit back and I will tell all, Paul would walk passed our windows every day sometimes two or three times a day with his dog Rex, poor thing anyway one day in July some of the local lads had given me a fright and Mum wanted me to get some fish and chips from the shop up the road, so she asked Paul if he would mind walking me up the road, I kid you not, we didn't even know each others names, well actually we did by asking people around us, anyway he walked me up to the chippie and then asked me out, July 17th until 24th that's all and my sister Diana managed to stir it and we split up, I was devastated, my life had just ceased, I would sit in the bedroom window playing a certain song called "Hey Paula" over and over again, I was a student at art college and each day we'd go to a hut which was used as our dining hall but I would stand on the local bridge watching a bus come in from the local factory a young man tall, blond with the most gorgeous eyes ever would sit on that bus watching, in September 1964 I moved with my family to a place in Buckinghamshire called Paulespury, I wrote to Paul's mum and dad and rang me on the Friday on the Monday October 1964 a letter fell on my doormat and when I opened it I nearly fainted, his third letter to me he asked me if I would marry him, we moved back to Torquay in February 65 I had told Paul I was moving but not where so I knocked on his front door and he answered it, when he took me back to where we were staying he leaned over to kiss me and I was so nervous he ended up kissing my bottom lip, my hero, we married on February 25th 1967 at 2.30 in the afternoon at the Avenue Methodist church in Newton Abbot, I walked down the aisle and he looked at me and whispered "I love you" and I had a coughing fit, I didn't have a tissue and the vicar stopped the service to get me some water and a tissue, when it resumed the vicar uttered the words "Do you Paul Herbert" and he looked round to see who was laughing, nearly 47 years and this Tribute page will tell the story, we have three grandchildren Quinn who is 20 and Phoebe 16 Daisy May is now nearly 18 months but she was just 4 months old when Paul got to hold her, she won't know him so these pages will tell his story for her and Quinn and Phoebe, the story of a very special man.
